Matera 2019

In accordance with the agreement reached by the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security, chaired by the Prefect of Matera Antonella Bellomo, on 19 January 2019, access to the Sasso Caveoso district will be granted to residents, owners, employees and guests of B&Bs and other accommodation facilities, who have already been registered, as well as to other categories of visitors, according to specific procedures.

In particular, access to the Sasso Caveoso district will also be granted to the residents’ guests and those who are domiciled in the area. In this case, from 15 January 2 pm till 18 January 2 pm, those who are resident or domiciled in the area must communicate their personal data (name, surname and date of birth) to the police headquarters of Matera, using the following email address: This email address is being protected from spambots. Furthermore, those who have a lunch booked on the 19 January will be allowed to reach the restaurants and cafés of the Sasso Caveoso district. In this case, the owners of the premises for the sale and consumption of food and drinks must send an email, not later than 12 noon, on 18 January, to the same e-mail address: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The email must include the personal data of the owners, employees and customers. In order to ensure the effectiveness of the security services, owners must ask the guests who does not have an access Pass to the areas accessible to the public during the evening event, to leave the Sassi district by 3 pm.

It should be noted that, in order to ensure a smooth and safe running of the event, under the measures on access, safety and public security, only those who have the Pass issued by the Matera Basilicata 2019 Foundation, will be able to enter the Rione Malve and the Sasso Caveoso districts to reach the areas accessible with the Pass.

As regards the opening ceremony that will take place at the Cava del Sole, it should be pointed out that this area is only reached by the free shuttle buses made available by the municipality of Matera. The shuttle buses run from Piazza Matteotti and the Paip2 district, from 9 am to 10.45 am, on 19 January.

As regards disabled people with severe limitation on their ability to walk, the Matera Basilicata 2019 Foundation, together with the municipality and the police, have provided dedicated areas for 30 people (and 30 people accompanying them) both in Piazza Vittorio Veneto and in Piazza San Pietro Caveoso, next to the guests’ stage.

The shuttle buses made available by the municipality of Matera will provide transport services to disabled people. The shuttle buses run from Piazzale Aldo Moro and via Granulari (Paip 2) to Cava del Sole, from 9 am to 10.45 am, and from Piazzale Aldo Moro to the Sassi (direction via Daddozio, stop at Porta Pistola), from 3 pm to 4 pm.

The timetable has been arranged in order to ensure a smooth running of the “Matera Cielo Stellato” event.

Disabled people will obtain their accreditation by sending an email to the following e- mail address: This email address is being protected from spambots. The documents certifying the disability must also be attached. The first 60 requests (30+30 people accompanying the disabled, for each area) will be accepted, on a first-come, first-served basis.
