LEADING THE CITIES OF RIGA AND TALLINN, EUROPEAN CAPITALS OF CULTURE IN 2014 AND IN 2011

Two dates to save for Matera in the coming days with two major Baltic cities, Tallinn, European Capital of Culture in 2011, and Riga, European Capital of Culture 2014.

The meetings are part of the activities planned for the Baltic Week , sponsored by the Committee Matera 2019 and by the Agency for Promotion for the Territory of Basilicata , in which there are numerous activities to strengthen relationships between Matera and Baltic region cities which have already obtained the title of European Capital of Culture .

The week begins June 2nd at the "XXI September" Stadium in Matera, with the opening match of the Scirea Cup among the youth team of Riga and the selection of Basilicata 2019, attended by the President of the Football Federation of Latvia.

On June 3rd, in the location of the former Hospital of St. Rocco, there will be the inaugural opening of the exhibition "Reflections from the land of Estonian Setu", by artist Nicolai Kormashov, one of the most influential Estonian painters in the second half of the twentieth century.

On June 4th, there will be a workshop focused on the experience of Tallinn, European Capital of Culture 2011, during which you can listen to their experience in becoming the capital of culture, as well as hearing from other cities in the area, which participated in the creation of the cultural program for the identity of Tallinn 2011. Specifically this meeting is aimed at strengthening the expertise and knowledge, needed for working together towards the application of Matera 2019. All citizens are encouraged to participate in this event, particularly the cultural associations , socio-economic representatives and mayors of the province of Matera and the entire Basilicata region.
