Stefano Murciano
Stefano Murciano was born in Galatina (Lecce) in 1988.
In 2013 he was awarded a first class honours bachelor’s degree in literature and theatre studies,writing his dissertation on the history of theatre and performance entitled “André Antoine: la deteatralizzazione del teatro”. In 2015 he was awarded a first class honours master’s degree in performance studies, writing his dissertation on the history of theatre entitled “Tra Filologia e Sperimentazione, il Festival della Valle d’Itria e la regia del melodramma” from the University of Bari “Aldo Moro”.
In 2015 he took part in the “Future Lab - Balab”project at the Polytechnic University of Bari and in the same year achieved a level V vocational qualification as “Head of Theatre, Cinema and Television Direction”at Celips in Foggia.
In 2017 he completed a first-level master’s in “Opera Stage Direction” at the Verona Opera Academy (Accademia d’Arte Drammatica Silvio d’Amico di Roma and Accademia di Belle Arti di Verona) and a first-level master’s in “Performance Management” at the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna.
He worked as a director’s assistant for the “Teatro di San Carlo” in Naples for “Lucia di Lammermoor” by G. Donizetti, directed by Gianni Amelio and in this version by Michele Mangini, and again for the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples at the Dubai Opera (United Arab Emirates) for the Mozart/Da Ponte trilogy“Così Fan Tutte” conducted by Mr. Andrea Albertini, “Nozze di Figaro”conducted by Mr. Maurizio Agostini, “Don Giovanni”conducted by Mr. Hansjorg Albrecht, directed by Mariano Bauduin.
From 2014 to 2017 he was the artistic director of the regional theatre network Puglia Off - winning the Rete Critica award for viral communication in 2015 - and in 2017 he was the artistic director of the “Teatro Comunale” in Galatone. In addition, he has worked as organiser and artistic director of cultural events and theatre festivals and as a consultant on cultural projects and live shows.
He directed “Piccoli Crimini Coniugali” (Partners in Crime) by Eric Emmanuel Schmitt, “Le fuggitive”by Pierre Palmade and Christophe Duthuron, and“Stucke”by M. Autorino.
In 2018 he participated in the Build Up Matera 2019 programme as a junior maker and worked as a production assistant for the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro.
