L’Utopia che non vide la Merica

The exhibition is based on the historical essay Utopia Amidst the Mists of Memory: Notes from a Shipwreck, published in 2024 by Marotta & Cafiero Editori and distributed by Mondadori, a work which received an Honourable Mention at the Città di Grottammare – Franco Loi National Literary Prize (2025).

Through a narrative journey based on historical documents, period images and supplementary material, the exhibition aims to restore dignity and memory to the approximately 600 victims of the tragedy of 17 March 1891, with a particular focus on the victims from Basilicata and Matera.
