The Great Funerals of the Mediterranean

A Narrative and Musical Walking Performance through the Sassi of Matera

Cinema Il "Piccolo" , Matera
Free admission
This event is part of the project Matera 2026 Capitale Mediterranea della Cultura e del Dialogo

Inspired by the Mediterranean as a shared space of civilizations, migrations, encounters and loss, the performance unfolds as a poetic procession through one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities. Theatre, music and the surrounding landscape merge into a powerful collective ritual, inviting audiences to reflect on memory, belonging and the enduring connections between the peoples of the Mediterranean.
Guided by performers and musicians from across the region, spectators become part of an immersive journey where every step, every voice and every sound resonates with centuries of shared history. Ancient pathways, caves and stone architecture become both scenery and storyteller, creating an unforgettable experience suspended between past and present.

A journey through sound, memory and landscape, where the Mediterranean is not merely a place, but a living archive of stories, identities and shared futures.
