Welcome 2026

Welcome 2026

The new year begins with a shared promise and a great responsibility: in 2026 Matera is the Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue.

The Foundation’s work is dedicated to preserving and nurturing the essence of this land, which expresses itself every day through its creative energies, cultural productions, talents, and stories. These are the elements that make Matera and Basilicata a unique place in the world.

Our goal is to guide these treasures towards new international horizons while maintaining a deep connection with the communities that bring them to life.

Our commitment is to create open, participatory projects where citizens can feel like active contributors to a collective narrative. This narrative draws its strength from both the tangible and intangible heritage of Basilicata: its traditions, cultural landscapes, and millennia of history—shaped by a Middle Ages of encounters, dialogues, and layers of history that continue to resonate today.

In the coming year, we aim to move forward together, strengthening the identity of Matera and Basilicata, and transforming it into a message that can cross the Mediterranean and the world—one that embodies culture, dialogue, and participation.
