In Linea d’Aria
From November 29 to December 5, five municipalities in the heart of Basilicata’s inland regions take center stage in In Linea d’Aria, a project by the Matera Basilicata 2019 Foundation, curated by Anna Gesualdi and Giovanni Trono of Teatringestazione, hosted on the digital platform of Radio Leib and performed live in the municipalities of Accettura, Aliano, Campomaggiore, Cirigliano, Pietrapertosa, and Matera-La Martella, with the support of the Goethe Institut Napoli.
With its experimental format, the project simultaneously inhabits diverse and widespread spaces to connect people and places that are seemingly distant: the physical space, in person; the auditory space of the radio, both live and recorded, understood as an inhabited and extended space rather than merely a medium; and the digital space through a device—Gap—for audio proximity that allows listening via smartphone.
For an entire week, the communities of Accettura, Aliano, Campomaggiore, Cirigliano, and Pietrapertosa will host artist residencies featuring regional, national, and German groups, culminating in a series of live performances inspired by the theme “Nature/Culture,” created by the artists to be presented to an in-person audience and to those listening on Radio Leib, a digital radio platform that will maintain the connection between the participating towns.
From November 29 to December 2, the artists will work in public spaces significant to the local community and identified in collaboration with the “care committees”—groups of permanent residents who look after the artists in residence, treating them as temporary residents.
From December 3 to 5, performances by Compagnia Teatrale Petra, O-Team, IAC, Lara Russo, Paola Bianchi, and Radio Cashmere will take the stage. On December 4, the “Bibi Testalunga” community garden, designed by Mimì Coviello and Lucrezia Di Dio of meson ro studio as part of the Matera 2019 “Gardentopia” project, will also be inaugurated.
Anthropologist and journalist Patrizia Giancotti is entrusted with weaving together the dialogues that will animate the final Agora on December 5: an open, dynamic roundtable, a space for sharing the cultural projects of Matera 2019 and other initiatives in inland areas, as well as an opportunity to identify gaps and propose solutions in light of the perspectives of invited guests, including artists, curators, policymakers, researchers, cultural operators, and citizens from remote areas. The day will conclude in the La Martella neighborhood with a DJ set and live painting by DJ Flower and Papa Massi, to celebrate together the new square in the Olivetti neighborhood, recently redeveloped by the City of Matera.
Hosted by Giovanni Passariello and Silvio Impegnoso, the entire programming dedicated to In Linea d’Aria will also be available on Radio Leib, a platform dedicated to experimental and community radio.
