FAHRENHEIT Amelia and Rocco: A Poetry Reading by Susanna Tartaro with Antonella Anedda and Ulderico Pesce
Antonella Anedda, a poet whose work is in constant dialogue with that of Amelia Rosselli, and Ulderico Pesce, an expert on the life and work of Rocco Scotellaro, will take centre stage in Amelia and Rocco, a poetry reading dedicated to these two major figures of 20th-century Italian literature. The two first met in 1950. She was a cosmopolitan young woman in her twenties, daughter of the renowned politician and anti-fascist Carlo Rosselli, who would later become a musicologist. He was the son of a shoemaker, mayor of Tricarico, and deeply passionate about politics. Amelia and Rocco will meet again in Matera through two exceptional readers and a selection of texts that will bring to life for the audience their poetic and emotional world, rich in human resonance. L’ASINO E IL BUE DEL PRESEPE DI SAN FRANCESCO NEL PARCHEGIO DEL SUPERMERCATO
Written and performed by Ascanio Celestini
Piano Danilo Blaiotta
Presented by Lorenzo Pavolini
Why does St. Francis still fascinate us eight centuries later? And where would we find him today? Among homeless people begging on the streets? Among African warehouse workers moving packages in a large logistics centre? St. Francis is the guiding thread and one of the central figures of Poveri Cristi (Poor Souls). Reimagined as a contemporary character, the Saint of Assisi arrives in a suburban parking lot (next to a supermarket) to set up a Nativity scene and connect with society’s most marginalized people.

CONCERT – Les Amazones d’Afrique. Presented by Valerio Corzani
Assitan “Mamani” Keita – vocals
FAFA Ruffino – vocals
Alvie Bitemo – vocals
Xavier Pernet – percussion
Manu Chavanet – keyboards
A creative force bringing together international voices, gentle yet powerful harmonies championing the rights of women and girls, and a fusion of cultural heritage and the talents of new generations. The original Amazons were the Dahomey Amazons, an elite military unit of elephant hunters in ancient Benin. Among their ranks were women rejected by their parents or husbands because of their rebellious spirit, who found a new family within this extraordinary force. Inspired by this legacy, Les Amazones d’Afrique is a pan-African collective of female artists, a supergroup featuring a rotating line-up of singers. Born from an idea involving Mamani Keita, Angélique Kidjo (who also appears as a guest on the album) and Mariam Doumbia, the collective has developed a repertoire of resistance and empowerment, performed by different frontwomen. An outstanding line-up of artists, including Mamani Keita, Fafa Ruffino, Kandi Guira and Dobet Gnahoré, brings together powerful voices and musical influences. Their songs speak out against sexual violence, move between funk and blues with distorted guitars, and blend dub and funk with outspoken criticism of female genital mutilation. Their musical journey also involves collaborations with producer Doctor L of Mbongwana Star and releases on Peter Gabriel’s record label.
