We are proud to support Viva Vittoria, a project that promotes participation as a cultural practice, capable of transforming a simple gesture into a collective message against violence against women. Within the framework of Matera 2026 Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue, we chose to support this initiative because it places people, relationships, and collective action at its core.
The contribution of Matera Basilicata 2019 Foundation has also taken shape through a symbolic gesture: the donation of yarn, delivered on Tuesday, April 21 at the APT Basilicata Open Space, in the colors of the Matera 2026 visual identity. These threads will become part of the collective artwork, weaving together different stories into a shared narrative.
Among the supporters of the initiative were also representatives of Inner Wheel Matera. The network of solidarity has further expanded thanks to Texture Italy, which provided yarn for the creation of new squares. The presence of Fondazione Pangea was also fundamental: it manages in Matera the Anti-Violence Help Desk and the “Isabella Morra” shelter, and will receive the funds raised during the final event in November, turning the symbolic artwork into concrete support for women in the area.
Viva Vittoria is a project promoted by Associazione Tessere APS in collaboration with Viva Vittoria ODV, involving citizens, schools, associations, and businesses in the creation of knitted and crocheted squares. These will shape a large participatory installation on November 21–22, 2026, in Piazza Vittorio Veneto in Matera. The project is also supported by the Municipality and Province of Matera and by CSV Basilicata.
Viva Vittoria speaks a language that reflects the Foundation’s values: community, inclusiveness and dialogue, especially in a year when Matera positions itself as a meeting place in the Mediterranean. A blanket made of different hands and stories is one of the most powerful images of dialogue: each square keeps its own shape and color, and precisely for this reason, the whole works. Differences are valued and this is a principle that applies both to these blankets and to communities and one that the Foundation places at the heart of its work.
