At the SoutHeritage Foundation’s exhibition space, in the heart of Matera’s historic Sassi districts, a public event will introduce the international artistic residency “Unfolding Pathways: Fluid Forms and Hybrid Interpretations of Paper Craft Design”, featuring artist-in-residence Sophie Usunier, joined by artist Giovanni Gaggia.
Drawing on his book “Com’è il cielo in Palestina?” (Mar dei Sargassi, 2026), Gaggia will broaden the scope of the residency’s exploration, offering a different perspective on the relationship between artistic practice, memory, contemporary life and the Mediterranean imagination.
The residency is part of the “Terre Immerse – Euro-Mediterranean Creative Communities” programme, promoted by the Matera Basilicata 2019 Foundation as part of Matera 2026 Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue, in collaboration with the Municipality of Matera, the Italian Ministry of Tourism and the Basilicata Region.
The event is organised in synergy with the project “Atlante del cielo comune” (Atlas of the Common Sky), an initiative by the Puglia Region aimed at promoting peace and strengthening relations among Mediterranean peoples, implemented by ARTES and curated by Tommaso Evangelista.
